More nice terrain on Day 3, and I even got high enough up to find some trees and shade. It was a 22 mile day ending at the high point of the mountains in some nice wind to keep the bugs away. I spent most of the day watching over my shoulder for the giant squirrel (check out the giant pine cone pic). It cooled down and even spinkled some rain so I rested and enjoyed a hot meal in the cool(ish) afternoon - tadpole tea I called it... You can't be too picky when you find water down here, so I used a cloth to filter out the tadpoles from my standing water before treating with bleach... Mmmmm! Think of drinking chlorinated public pool water mixed with piss and masked with hint of gatorade to make it palatable and you're close to what I drank all day... I also treated myself to a much needed sponge bath using my pot as the bucket and my face cloth as the sponge - another shot of multipurpose bleach and away go the stink! Note the salt stains on the shirt... pretty hot down here...

No mention of your "friends". Did they tag along with you from Mojave or did you leave them there for someone else to pick up? How are your bites and butt doing?

Funny stuff. I read the 'roach motel' post from my luxury ass hotel in downtown Frankfurt before going out to fancy dinner and beers with my boss.
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing is that I would have traded it in a second to drink tadpole soup with you on the trail. Great work on surviving. Keep it up, we're all loving the updates.
Brian
So wait... why aren't you driving again? haha
