Day 1 started at hiker heaven mailing packages and packing up. I left with HawkEye, WhyWait, WhyNot, and MissAlaska at 4pm and put in 9 miles before a beautiful sunset and campspot up high on a ridge.
The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is a 2,650-mile national scenic trail that runs from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon and Washington. It passes through six out of seven of North America's ecozones including high and low desert, old-growth forest and arctic-alpine country.
The PCT passes through three states, climbs nearly 60 major mountain passes, descends into 19 major canyons, and ambles past more than 1,000 lakes and tarns. The PCT also traverses 3 national monuments, 7 national parks, 24 national forests, and 33 federally mandated wildernesses.
