I've been doing lots of "practice" hikes. I'm not bring lots of stuff with me, so I want to make sure what I have works alright (helps with the whole 'not dying on the trip' thing I'm going for...). The hike goes from weeks of desert(ish) hiking all the way to weeks of snow covered mountain passes, so early season hikes up yamnuska (first photos above) give a good idea of mountain sections, and the badlands in spring are as close to desert as I'll find around here (bottom photos).
